Hi Hasan and friends,

I am really interested in the idea of setting up a SaaS site as a project to not only expand my skills but to generate some passive income. I have some basic self-taught experience with WordPress: I rebuilt my organization's website this year from scratch and have been familiarizing myself with some basic SEO practices. I do not have any experience with php yet, however.

My questions are as follows in regards to setting up a SaaS site:

1-a. Is installing cPanel and WHM on my VPS a good way to manage the website? Is it even possible to do so?

1-b. Follow up: If I wanted to host multiple other WordPress websites, is it fine to do so on my VPS and manage them through cPanel? I manage my work's website right now that uses shared hosting and I get to my WordPress dashboard through cPanel. I initially built the site and I continue to update the site through a staging site that I then push to live, accessed through cPanel -> WP. I've been teaching myself throughout this year and I apologize if this is basic - it is all I am familiar with so it would be easier for me to digest all of this when I compare it to what I know. How would this SaaS site compare to what I've described?

2. Is it possible to design/customize my SaaS site through WordPress and add CodeCanyon php scripts to the functions.php file through a child theme? I have not utilized a child theme before but I understand that any modifications related to core CSS files and php files need to be done on a child theme, specifically the functions.php and style.css files.

Am I on the right track with this? I want to make sure I understand what I am doing before I jump into a project like this. I find this really interesting and I know that there is a large learning curve, so I really appreciate everyone on this forum and all of your (Hasan's) amazing content!

Thank you so much,

Natalie

1- You can install cpanel on vps, sure, but is it good or not, it depends what you are going to do, for one website, its not needed, you will waste resources.

but if you have multiple sites, yes cpanel or any WHM will make things easier.

2- In general, anything is possible in programming, but is it easy? compatible? how much time it will it take? this depends on the scripts and what you want to do.

if you have numerous sites, cpanel or another WHM will make things easier.

This is dependent on the scripts and what you want to do.

You can install cpanel on vps, yes, but is it good or bad? It depends on what you want to accomplish; for one website, it is unnecessary, and you would waste resources.
